  • The Opera House 1 Museum Road Fort Dodge, IA, 50501 United States (map)

In observance of Black History Month, the vocal music ensembles at Iowa Central Community College will be hosting an uplifting evening of music with the annual Black History Month Concert.

The performance will take place on Friday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Museum Opera House.

The concert will feature each of the four vocal performance ensembles:  Concert Choir, Encore Singers, Pop Voices, and Vocal Jazz performing both familiar and not so well-known spiritual and folk tunes along with gospel and pop favorites.

Some of the musical selections include a gospel version of the traditional hymn “His Eye is on the Sparrow;” gospel tune “He Never Failed Me Yet,” featuring a favorite guest soloist The Rev. Eric Howard, who has made several appearances with Iowa Central choirs over the years; a modern arrangement of Ben E. King’s hit song “Stand By Me” which was made famous during the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle; and “Stand Up,” the theme song from the movie “Harriet.” The concert will close with a thrilling A Capella arrangement of the gospel jam “Total Praise.”

Admission to the concert is free with a freewill offering accepted for the Opera House.
